Movies Filmed in Prague: The Ultimate Walking Tour

Prague as Hollywood: In the Footsteps of Agents and Superheroes

In our previous article, we explored the most famous movies filmed in Prague. Reading about them is one thing, but seeing the locations with your own eyes is an unforgettable experience. Do you want to stand exactly where Tom Cruise escaped agents in Mission: Impossible or walk across the bridge where Spider-Man had his romantic moment? We have the perfect plan for you.

This route will guide you through the historic center, taking you to the exact spots you know from Hollywood blockbusters – places you’ve seen on screen, now right under your feet. The walk takes about 2–3 hours at a leisurely pace and leads you from the bustling Wenceslas Square through ancient cobblestone streets to the picturesque Lesser Town. Put on some comfortable shoes and get your cameras ready – let’s go!

Movies filmed in Prague: Walking Tour

PRO TIP for atmosphere hunters: Prague is full of life (and tourists) during the day. If you want to experience the real movie magic, head out early in the morning, ideally around sunrise. Charles Bridge will be empty and shrouded in mist, just like in the famous scene from Mission: Impossible – and the photos you take will be absolutely worth it.

Lights, camera, action! Your Prague Movie Walk Itinerary

The best part is that most of these filming locations are easily and publicly accessible. You just need to look around – it is quite possible that you are standing on the very spot where a key scene took place.

  1. Start your journey at the National Museum at the top of Wenceslas Square, whose monumental hall appeared in Casino Royale and Mission: Impossible. Just a few steps away, stop by the Art Nouveau Hotel Evropa, where Ethan Hunt planned his next moves.

  2. As you head towards the historic center, make a stop at the Estates Theatre. This is where film history was made when Miloš Forman filmed his Oscar-winning Amadeus.

  3. From there, continue to Old Town Square, where you can easily visualize the aquarium explosion scene from the first Mission: Impossible.

  4. Follow the crowds from the square towards Charles Bridge, or take a short detour to the Rudolfinum. This is exactly where one of the wildest scenes from the action blockbuster The Gray Man took place – the frantic tram chase and shootout that turned this peaceful square into a battlefield.

  5. Then continue to the bridge itself, undoubtedly one of the most important locations for movies filmed in Prague. This is where the iconic night scene with Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible took place, and where Spider-Man: Far From Home captured one of Peter Parker’s most memorable moments.

  6. Once you cross to the other side of the Vltava, stop by Kampa Island to see the Liechtenstein Palace. Its exterior served as the U.S. embassy in Mission: Impossible.

  7. Then head to Lesser Town Square (Malostranské náměstí) and the Church of St. Nicholas, which hosted grand interior scenes in Van Helsing, including the masquerade ball.

Our movie itinerary ends here. Now it’s your turn to hit the streets. You can wrap up your tour right here – perhaps with a well-deserved coffee in a local café – or continue uphill towards the Prague Castle or the Petřín Tower for even more spectacular views. Anyway, the Castle´s courtyards and surroundings have served as a backdrop for numerous productions. If you still have energy, continue from the Castle to the Strahov Monastery. Its stunning library served as the British House of Commons in Casino Royale

And next time you watch your favorite blockbuster, you might just recognize the very places you walked through today.

Practical Tips for Your Movie Walk

This route is beautiful year-round, but the timing can change the mood entirely:

  • Early mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds (especially on Charles Bridge and Old Town Square). They also offer the most cinematic atmosphere – particularly in spring or autumn, when fog often rolls over the river and the Lesser Town.
  • Evenings, on the other hand, are perfect if you want to see Prague illuminated and imagine night scenes from Mission: Impossible or Van Helsing.

As you walk, pay attention to smaller details rather than just the main landmarks. Many movies filmed in Prague make use of courtyards, side streets and architectural details that are easy to overlook at first glance. Prague’s ability to "double" for other locations lies in these subtle details.
